The Balconies, Oh No Forest Fires, Fox Jaws and Whale Tooth at Lee’s Palace

Now, while I usually refrain from writing about my day-to-day meanderings or lax weekends on this thing, I really think the awesome show at Lee’s that just passed (Friday September 25th) with The Balconies, Oh No Forest Fires, Fox Jaws and Whale Tooth really deserves a big fucking high five. My shimmying was just so goddamn out of control I can’t help but gush to all (any) of you who weren’t there.

Whale Tooth started off with their much beloved indie pop, Fox Jaws‘ folk-wave was totally hardcore (man, Carleigh Aikins has got some serious lungs), the wickedly obtuse Oh No Forest Fires reminded me why I like math and beards, and The Balconies – playing in Toronto for the first time since the release of their new album – were so badass they even drew down cretins from Dance Cave to groove to their funky basslines. Their album is totally wicked, by the way – I can’t fucking get Skinny Dipper out of my head – but I promised Curran I’d let him have the first crack at the album for full review in the next issue of SB, so I’ll stop talking (writing?) now.

Overall: Badass. I love getting sweaty.
