Just got home from an incredible ALVVAYS show at the Brudenell Social Club. It was amazing to see a hometown tee-dot band in my favourite spot in Leeds. I recently learned that my beloved Chad VanGaalen produced their record, no wonder I loved it at first listen (it’s bonkers). Molly Rankin is my spirit animal. Here are a couple of shots (above) that I took between dancing with Curran, belting out “Archive, Marry Me,” and drinking cider. Oh, and their KEXP Seattle performance (below) will give you a sense of how wonderful they are live, though not nearly the same volume that real presence affords. Coincidentally, they’re also on the same US label as the next band I’m seeing at the Brudenell next month (one of my favourites): Deerhoof! Anyway, my favourite track is the one they play first on KEXP, “Ones who love you.” Swoon worthy, indeed.
